I want to be a brave rat
Description
As a twenty-five year old Taiwanese woman, I have been inspired by a traditional story that also gives its title to my project. In Taiwanese society it is commonly considered that life requires marriage to be complete, and is therefore empty for a woman who never has children. For me, although I am not the person who can change the society, I would like to use my textile to tell the situation that happened in my hometown.
Here, humorous storytelling brings to attention the issue of gender inequality in Taiwanese culture. With an eye for detail and a wink to pop art, I focus on the craft of embroidery combined with figurative hand weaving to create my very own cute style. Bringing the embroidery idea to create my own thread and become the weft part of weaving. Paying attention on the hand weaving and embroidery, I wants to tell stories that raise awareness about the notion of women's work in society.
The small sample that everyone get this time is part of my project that I am doing now, if you are interesting and want to know more about my works and stories, there are more details on my instagram @LICCATEXTILE
