Yuma Taru

Yuma Taru is one of the very few members of the Atayal Tribe who knows every process of the traditional Atayal textile manufacturing.
She founded Lihang studio as an effort in maintaining the Atayal textile culture so that the younger Atayal generation can inherit it.

The Atayal Resurrection and Yuma Taru

During the Japanese colonial period, Atayal people were massively killed and forced to move to the current location, where they have established the village “Xianbi". Yuma Taru spent 20 years retrieving her tribe's lost culture and has successfully re-created 400 - 500 Atayal authentic weaving textiles through traditional craftsmanship.

Yuma Taru is also the one of very few who are still able to re-create the traditional Atayal textile from scratch: from growing, planting, threading, dyeing, which she has been doing since 1992.
